How To Wipe The Universe Clean

Firstly we need to understand energy levels. Think of a ball at the peak of a mountain. Because of the high amounts of potential energy this ball is quite unstable. If it falls and reaches a plane and therefore more stable surface, the ball is now at its minimum energy level, hence stable.

Anything with potential energy will always try to get rid of it. Now the problem lies on the fact that our universe could be on a plane, stable energy level (no issue here), or it could be in a highly unstable energy level ready to drop in order to acquire stability....

Our universe is composed of many fields, all of which are at their minimum energy level and therefore stable; all except for one: the Higgs field (gives particles mass). Research shows it might be at a metastable level, creating what is known as a false vacuum.

Metaestable means that it is in fact kind of stable, but if someone were to give the ball a push it would fly off the edge. But what exactly would this "drop" mean for us?

A lot of things could cause the Higgs field to exit this metastable state, from a supernova to a strong enough particle collision.

The drop of energy level would create a sphere of true vacuum that would start to expand at the speed of light itself. Everything that comes in contact with it, will be entirely annihilated.
